Vodacom Lesotho is a member of Vodafone’s Africa family, a group of telecommunications operators in various states of Africa. Partially local-owned. We provide leading telecommunications solutions through extensive investment in latest infrastructure and human capital. We pride ourselves in having a better understanding of the domestic market having been in Lesotho for 2 decades, since 1996.

Background

Vodacom Group Limited offers a variety of telecommunication and data communication services and products. The Company operates in three segments: Corporate, South Africa and International. The Company also offers business managed services to enterprises in over 40 countries across Africa. The Company's core services are voice, messaging and data, which are all available on either contract or prepaid. Vodacom provides services to 39.6 million customers as at 31 March 2009. Its mobile network covers a total population of approximately 182 million people across five countries: South Africa, Tanzania, the DRC, Lesotho and Mozambique

Vodacom Lesotho started operating in 1996 with the Government of Lesotho as a shareholder through its stake in Lesotho Telecommunications Corporation. When the Government of Lesotho began its privatisation process in 1999, it invited bids for this share in Vodacom Lesotho. In July 2000, Sekha-Metsi Consortium, a group of local business people and public figures, was announced as the successful bidder. Sekha-Metsi holds a 20% share in Vodacom Lesotho with the remaining share held by Vodacom Group. Vodacom Group operates as a subsidiary of Vodafone Group Plc.

Operations and Network Coverage

Vodacom Lesotho started operating in 1996 with the Government of Lesotho as a shareholder through its stake in Lesotho Telecommunications Corporation. Vodacom M-Pesa

In July 2013, Vodacom Lesotho launched M-Pesa, a revolutionary financial service and driver of financial inclusion and economic empowerment. Through M-Pesa, Basotho can send and receive money, buy airtime, be able to pay for utility bills and in the near future, perform international money transfers.

In the 6 months Vodacom M-Pesa has been around, over 325, 000 people have registered on the service. Vodacom has trained and approved over 1000 M-Pesa agents countrywide to date, and the numbers continue to rise exponentially.

Vodacom M-Pesa services can be Person-to-Person, Customer-to-Business, Business-to-Customer, and Business-to-Business.
