The Lesotho Communications Authority (LCA) informs the public that the Communications (Subscriber Identity Module) Registration regulations No, 141 of 2021 which were published in a Government Gazette on 24 December, 2021 and came into operation on the 24th June, 2022 will reach their deadline at midnight on Friday, 23rd June, 2023.

The Authority further wishes to inform the public that the SIM registration exercise has been successful with both Econet Telecom Lesotho (ETL) and Vodacom Lesotho (VCL) managing to register more than 70% of their subscribers.

These numbers put the Authority on a comfortable position to deactivate all unregistered SIM’s as per the regulations. However, noting some of the comments from the public which allude to the possibility of unclean data captured, the Authority has resolved that all unregistered SIM’s should not be deactivated as it starts the process of cleaning the data to satisfy itself that all subscribers that have registered are duly captured.

It is however important to note that once the data cleaning process is complete all unregistered SIM’s will be deactivated. The Authority thus wishes to urge all those who might not have registered, to expedite the process to avoid any service disruption. To confirm registration, all ETL’s subscribers can dial *101# while for VCL subscribers the number is *999#.
